At Geelan Dental Care, we can do root canals in-house unless a patient would prefer to see a specialist (endodontist). Dr. Geelan has spent many hours in continuing education regarding root canals, and he employs the latest technology to perform root canals more quickly and more predictably. A root canal is a procedure used to repair a tooth that has become infected or is severely decayed. The infection occurs within the center of the tooth, where the tooth’s nerve is contained. Without treatment, the tissue surrounding the tooth becomes infected and abscesses may form. Signs to look for include pain, prolonged sensitivity to heat or cold, tenderness to touch and chewing, discoloration of the tooth, and swelling, drainage and tenderness in the lymph nodes as well as nearby bone and gum tissues. Sometimes, however, there are no symptoms, which is why regular dental check-ups are needed.
